Founder

Mason Wittman

Originally inspired to form Mutualism after seeing the passionate and hard-working entrepreneurs in South Africa’s Townships go unsupported. He and his co-founders saw how these businesses are pillars of their community and show many transactions, but no group seemed to be there for hands-on support or financing growth. Then came the idea of Mutualism.  

After more research, he realized supporting small businesses can bring economic empowerment & ownership to historically under-financed communities. From testing first loans on a hand sewing machine in Smallville, to now helping a 10+ person team to conduct over 125+ loans across a few months — Mason has grown with Mutualism to see through how this platform can impact at scale. 

On top of his work with Mutualism, Mason has received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration & Management, from the top 10 undergraduate program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  

Director & co-founder

Dylan Mott

Dylan Mott graduated from Columbia University with his BA and MA in Political Science, focused on international politics and development. After Columbia, Dylan worked with Hillary Clinton learning how to manage large-scale projects through the Clinton Foundation. Now, he is earning his MBA from Georgetown with the hopes of bringing those business skills back to Mutualism to help the company grow.

Chief Executive Officer

Prince Moeng

A visionary entrepreneur and financial expert. He founded Moeng Winery at 22, growing it into a multi-location business. With a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Johannesburg and multiple financial certifications, he has held leadership roles in finance, ERP consulting, and technology. Now CEO and Chairperson of the Investment Committee at Mutualism, he drives financial inclusion for South African businesses. His journey reflects resilience, innovation, and strategic leadership.

Chief Technology Officer

Thuba Mamba

CTO and Senior Software Engineer with extensive experience crafting high-impact products across HealthTech, Blockchain, and FinTech sectors in South Africa, Eswatini, Europe, and the USA. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Computer Science at a leading UK university. Thuba is particular about delivering exceptional user experiences while ensuring strong business value creation and actualization. Thuba also contributes to developer communities in Africa through alliances with global organizations like GitHub. He also has a keen focus on Cloud Architecture and a growing experience in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

Financial Analyst

Tekano Tlhobelo

An experienced financial analyst specializing in due diligence processes. He has a track record of contributing to informed investment decisions and successful funding outcomes for SMEs. Tekano is proficient in application assistance and due diligence within the financial sector and is passionate about helping small businesses reach sustainability.

Asset & Office Manager

Thapelo Chabane

As an Asset Manager at Mutualism, Thapelo applies his skills in customer service, portfolio management, and financial analysis to optimize the asset due diligence process for loan applications. Thapelo has worked in this role for over two years and enjoys the challenge and the opportunity to learn from a diverse and innovative team.

Web Developer

Clinton Manakane

Clinton is a web developer specializing in building scalable and efficient web applications. He is passionate about staying up-to-date with the latest web technologies and data analysis tools to understand how he can leverage those technologies to improve the Mutualism user’s experience.

Finance Intern - Junior Financial Analyst

Thandeka Madlavu

A qualified office administrator with three years of experience in office management and financial services, Thandeka is equipped to navigate the demands of both finance and administrative roles efficiently. She is responsible for the application processing, financial income statement analysis, and proficiently managing email correspondence.

Office Management Intern - Junior Office Manager

Yanga Kamana

An operations management Graduate at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Yanga holds two years of experience as a Junior Procurement and as a Junior Project Manager. She has also completed an NQF Level 4 Project Management Certificate, which she uses to ensure Mutualism’s office and communications run smoothly.

Tech Intern - Junior Web Developer

Busisiwe Tshabalala

Currently an intern in the Tech department at Mutualism, Busi’s responsibilities include enhancing the internal and external portals to improve the user experience. She has contributed to Mutualism’s foundational build and is passionate about leveraging technology to foster increased collaboration and drive successful projects.
